SCOTT COUNTY GOES TO COVID-19 RED LEVEL ADVISORY, COMMUNITY SPREAD IS HIGHEST REPORTED, NEW COUNTY-WIDE GUIDELINES
DECEMBER 2, 2020―Over the last several weeks Scott County has been reporting record high COVID-19 cases. The Scott County Health Department was notified yesterday by the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) that the county would move from an “orange” advisory level to “red” on the Indiana Department of Health County Metric Dashboard map. Being in a red level advisory means the county is seeing the highest amount of community spread. The dashboard map can be found here https://www.coronavirus.in.gov/2393.htm. Scott County Health Officer Dr. Kevin Rogers states, “It is concerning to see the high number of new cases in our county. This virus does not discriminate and citizens of all ages have become ill. I encourage everyone to follow guidelines to best protect themselves and loved ones.”
High Risk Populations
Anyone who is considered high-risk, 65 and older, or immunocompromised should limit their outings and exposures.
K-12 Schools
All sporting events or extracurricular activities will be allowed to have participants, parents/guardians’ of participants and essential personal. Contact your school district for more information.
Gatherings Limited to 25 People
In accordance to Indiana’s Executive Order 20-48 all gatherings indoor or outdoor will be limited to 25 people. If the gathering wishes to have more than 25 people they must submit a plan to the Scott County Health Department for approval (7) days before the event.
Religious Gatherings
Scott County Health Department acknowledges the religious exemptions in Indiana Executive Order 20-48. We encourage churches to provide virtual services to limit exposure at in-person gatherings if social distancing and face covering guidelines cannot be followed.
Protect Yourself and Others
COVID-19 spreads easily from person to person, mainly by the following routes:
• Between people who are in close contact with one another (within 6 feet).
• Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, breathes, sings or talks.
• Respiratory droplets cause infection when they are inhaled or deposited on mucous membranes, such as those that line the inside of the nose and mouth.
• People who are infected but do not have symptoms (pre-symptomatic) can also spread the virus to others.
Cover your mouth and nose with a mask or face shield when around others, especially within 6 feet of others.
Monitor your health daily and get tested if you are experiencing symptoms or have been exposed.
Those who are positive must self-isolate for 10 days. Those who are exposed must quarantine for 14 days after their last known contact with a positive case.
Scott County will combat the spread of this virus by working together to follow public health guidelines and requirements. These guidelines will not be lifted any sooner than December 22nd in accordance with Indiana’s Executive Order 20-48. For any questions or concerns reach out to the Scott County Health Department.
