Lineman Apprentices, Clark Hauer and Derek Davis spent the second week of October at Franklin Training Center honing their climbing skills during the Hoosier Energy Apprenticeship Training and Safety Advanced Climbing School.
Because line workers spend most of their time on utility poles, the advanced training focused on activities to help them trust the gear and pole, like tossing a football and leaning out, as well as running rope blocks, pulling up a transformer, and retiring a structure. By the end of the week, the apprentices had to demonstrate skills to supervisors, managers, and instructors, verifying they were qualified to climb a pole and meet OSHA standards. The first week of training involved basic climbing and other skills.
